Our Mission

A dignified response to food and household need

Harbor Store is being built in the Charleston area so families can receive groceries and essentials in a place that feels calm, respectful, and full of care.

How Harbor Store began

Harbor Store began with a simple conviction: help should feel dignified from the first moment someone walks in.

Harbor Store was founded by Stephen Groves around the belief that practical support and human dignity belong together. Families facing a difficult season should be able to receive help in a place that feels orderly, welcoming, and deeply human.

That belief shaped the mission from the start. Harbor Store is being built as a free grocery store where neighbors can choose groceries, household staples, and everyday essentials in a setting designed to lower stress and restore a sense of stability.

The aim is not only to meet need, but to do it in a way that communicates respect, beauty, and care. Harbor Store wants families to leave with practical support and the feeling that their community sees them with dignity.

What dignity means in practice

What dignity means in practice

For Harbor Store, dignity is not a slogan. It shows up in the way a space feels, the way people are treated, and the amount of stress removed from the experience.

Calm

A quieter, more settled environment that feels less chaotic and more hospitable.

Privacy

Support that respects people's circumstances and avoids making a hard season feel more exposed.

Choice

Room for people to select what fits their household instead of being treated like a number in a line.

Respect

Interactions that communicate care, seriousness, and a belief that every person deserves to be welcomed well.

How you can help before launch

How you can help before launch

Harbor Store is still being built, which means early support matters. Giving, volunteering, and introducing thoughtful partners all help turn the mission into something durable and public-ready.

Give Back

Support the launch work through a one-time or recurring gift that helps build a strong and careful foundation.
